Community post - Trip's broke and has to work for a living, disguises himself poorly
  • Alice and Red both assign him to collect information, since they're both hanging onto their old PokeDexes. Alice invites him to a meal, for which he's grateful, even if he can't quite make sense of Alice or her world.

  • Trip meets Gold, who's already met and lives with younger Trip, so that's fun. Trip pretentiously offers "Icarus" as an alternative nickname while considering his Olympus camera. He nearly passes out on Gold and Gold invites him to a meal (he won't accept hand-outs, invitations to shared meals spare his pride). He picks too many toppings and makes the meal a bit too pricey, but promises he'll pay Gold back and ransoms an Alder keychain because he can't give up his Xtransciever, until he can pay him back.

Shares meal with Serperior and company, who offend Gold's Pokemon by deeming them worthy of his trainer (he meant it perfectly sincerely, he's just........ a Serperior). It doesn't come to blows, though, Gold's Furret Elena keeps the peace and Gold's Togetic finally decides Serperior isn't that bad when she hears him explain what's going on to Tranquill, who's just a bit slow, being of the Pidove line.

  • Trip gets busted by Ash's Pikachu, learns to rely on a friend, Ash takes him up on the exorcism offer (mostly just because he thinks it's interesting), Trip accidentally throws trash on a hiding little Stantler, he and Ash get stuck in illusions in the forest, until Ash's Lucario sees through them with Aura, and Trip apologizes to the Stantler and child. Stantler gifts them two abandoned and damaged, but still musical Soothe Bells.
Ash hends up intervening on said exorcism as Trip and Lampent are too violent, it turns out to be a Banette that's hostile against humans, trying to curse its former human friend, because it believed it was abandoned. Ash handles Banette, borrowing Trip's Lampent, as Trip's too tired and hungry to carry on anyway.
After talking with Banette, Ash realizes Banette was drifted in with its human friend, who was likely drifted out without Banette, which Banette mistook as being purposefully abandoned. It regretted its actions and apologized to everyone at the graveyard, who initially blamed it and wanted to chase it away, but Ash got them to give it a chance to apologize. They were touched by its sincerity and forgave it. Ash and Banette part ways on friendly terms. <-most of this isn't even directly Trip related, his borrowed Lampent is basically stuck translating with illusions like a cross between Nyagotiator Nyasu/Meowth and Gastly from The Ghost of Maiden's Peak, ffff, until it got too tired to cast anymore illusions too.

  • Trip meets Professor Banyan and making a print equivalent of a PokeDex with entries from Banyan's PokeDex and photographs he's taken becomes much easier!

  • Mr. Larson offers Trip a more permanent job as a barista at the Glitterace Town Pokemon Center's cafe, which initially humiliates Trip because he's the annoying human equivalent of a Serperior and thinks this is ~beneath him~, but Mr. Larson's nice and gives lots of praise, so he quickly becomes very enthusiastic and does his best because he wants him to be proud of him!!!

  • Gold and Trip are coworkers at the cafe for a time! The "Icarus" nickname gets embarrassing, so it's just "Trip" now.

  • Trip notices Gold makes friendly conversation with "Akira" who is very obviously shady, but avoids friendly Elio. Speaks with Mr. Larson about him, learns he stayed with the Professor before travelling, and pays close attention to Elio. Realizes Elio's Ulternian Chikorita is much shier than the one with Professor Banyan. Realizes Gold was probably jealous and possessive over Professor Banyan, who he lived with until Elio returned.

  • Decides to join the gym challenge, since it looks like his stay here will last longer than expected.

  • Gifts Red a photograph he took of him and Hammy earlier.

Is approached by a Tepig that drifted in, along with other Starter Pokemon from various regions, that latches onto him. It's very timid and not a battler, but seems to have a strong sense of smell. It's caught without a battle.

  • Trip makes enough money to pay Gold back for the meal, also gifts him a huge Furret plush (think game size), and gets his keychain back. Informs Gold about Rose being a different Chikorita, shows pictures he's taken of her. Tries (somewhat badly) to explain to Gold, suspecting he sees Professor Banyan as a father figure, that seeing someone a certain way doesn't mean they'll see you that way too... and uses his own story about previously believing Alder really was defending his title to battle him someday, until upon meeting him, realizing Alder couldn't even remember him or saying something like that to him, so the words were only taken seriously as a promise and cherished by Trip all along, who battled solely to prove his strength to Alder, who was his entire goal... but to Alder, he really was just some kid he could never remember the name of. No guarantee that people will feel the same way about you that you feel about them, so it isn't fair to judge the Professor just because he thinks of him as a father.
Gold realizes it's his own dad back home who he really misses. He cries, Trip awkwardly attempts to comfort him. They have snacks. Trip dozes off.
Trip tried to make peace between Elio and Gold, but everything he's managed to learn from them and Professor Banyan, is already known... it's just something they'll have to work out on their own.

  • Trip enters a tournament and loses in the first round. Yes, again. He realizes how much he's stagnated here and decides he needs to train more seriously.

  • Mentions to Ash Tepig's sense of smell and half-seriously wonders if there's truffles to find Ultern, as a possible use for Tepig's abilities, and Ash suggests asking Grandma Yui about them.
